Food Gifts
Although food gifts can be a pleasant surprise for somebody
on a holiday, the kind of food you give will likely determine if the
gift is really a pleasant one. Included below are some foods that beg
consideration of the recipient’s tastes:
• Stale popcorn – Nobody wants a stale tin of popcorn.
The fact is that these tins include a lot of calories. If the popcorn
is not fresh, then it is definitely not worth the calories.
• Don’t give alcohol ? There are many people who do not
or should not drink. Because some peoples’ religious or personal
values preclude them from drinking alcohol; unless you have prior knowledge
of the recipient’s drink habits, giving sparkling cider may be
a better choice.
• Fruitcake – This is a tricky one. Some people love fruitcake.
If you know someone who would really appreciate these food gifts, then
perhaps it would not be a bad idea to give it. But if you give this
gift you should be prepared to hear all kinds of fruitcake jokes.
• Meats – In the cases when you do not know the recipient
very well, it may be a good idea to avoid giving canned or processed
meats as food gifts in case the recipient is a vegetarian.
