Specialty foods
Those who work with specialty foods can join an organization
that fosters trade, commerce, and interest in the specialty food industry.
The organization is called the National Association for the Specialty
Food Trade and it is a not-for-profit association that was established
in 1952.
The NASFT is an international organization composed of many different
kinds of people who deal with specialty foods on a regular basis. This
includes domestic and foreign manufacturers, importers, brokers, distributors,
restaurateurs, retailers, and caterers. The organization boasts more
than 2,500 member companies from across the globe.
Those who join this specialty foods organization are able to work with
other businesses as they attempt to grow in the vibrant food industry.
In addition to sharing information about business-building programs,
there are a number of services and networking opportunities available
to members.
The NASFT holds a number of events each year. The three main events,
the Fancy Food Shows, are designed to connect more than 50,000 buyers
with nearly 200,000 specialty foods products.
The summer show is held annually on the east coast, the winter show
is held on the west coast and the spring show is held in Chicago. Having
these events at different locations across the country allows those
who work with specialty foods a better chance of being able to attend
at least one.
